Manual Therapy:
Hands-On Care to Get
You Moving Freely

When feet and ankles grow stiff, sore or restricted, sometimes what they need most is a skilled pair of hands. Manual therapy is the hands-on heart of podiatric care — easing pain, freeing up movement, and helping your body work the way it should.

The Treatment

What Is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy is skilled, hands-on treatment for your feet, ankles and lower limbs. Using techniques such as joint mobilisation, soft-tissue release, stretching and massage, your podiatrist works directly with your body to restore movement, ease pain and release tight tissue. At Stride, it is delivered by experienced hands — our founder, Dr. Pallavi Singh, holds a master certification in manual therapy.

Why It Matters

Your feet work hard. Sometimes they need skilled hands.

Manual therapy treats your feet and lower limbs directly — not through a device or a generic protocol, but with precise, responsive, hands-on care.

Restores restricted movement

Eases stiffness and restores proper range of motion in the ankle, foot and toes — the foundation for pain-free walking and activity.

Releases tight tissue and eases pain

Directly addresses tight muscles, stiff fascia and tender trigger points — reducing pain at the source, not just masking it.

Improves flexibility and recovery

Better circulation and tissue mobility mean faster healing and more resilient movement — helping you recover from injury and stay injury-free.

Complements your wider care plan

Manual therapy works hand-in-hand with orthotics and exercises — hands-on relief and root-cause treatment reinforcing each other.

The Process

What to Expect in Your Session

A manual therapy session is hands-on, comfortable and often deeply relaxing.

01

Assessment

Your podiatrist examines how your joints move, and identifies where tissue is tight, stiff or tender — building a precise picture before treatment begins.

02

Explanation

We talk through what we found and how manual therapy will help — so you understand exactly what is being treated and why.

03

The Hands-On Treatment

A tailored combination of joint mobilisation, soft-tissue release, stretching and massage, applied to your feet, ankles and lower limbs. Comfortable and often deeply relaxing.

04

Movement and Home Exercises

We show you simple stretches and exercises to practise between visits — so you hold on to the gains and keep the momentum going.

05

Your Plan

Manual therapy works within a wider care plan alongside orthotics, exercises and footwear advice. We make sure every part works together.

Your Outcomes

What You Walk Away With

By the end of your session, you will have:

Freer, easier movement

Stiffness and restriction eased by skilled hands — ankles, feet and toes moving the way they should again.

Direct relief from pain

Tension and pain reduced at the source, not masked — so you feel the difference from the very first session.

Home exercises to hold the gains

Simple stretches and movements to practise between visits, keeping the progress going in your own time.

A plan that lasts

Hands-on care paired with root-cause treatment — orthotics, exercises and advice — so the relief holds long after the session ends.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Manual therapy helps a wide range of foot and lower-limb problems — plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, stiff or restricted ankles, post-injury tightness, and general foot and calf pain.

It should not be. Most techniques are comfortable, and many people find them relaxing. Your podiatrist works within your comfort and adjusts the pressure to suit you throughout the session.

Massage mainly works on soft tissue. Manual therapy is broader and more clinical — it also includes joint mobilisation and targeted techniques, guided by an assessment of exactly what your feet and lower limbs need.

It is a powerful part of treatment, but it works best within a wider plan. We pair hands-on care with the root-cause work — orthotics, exercises and footwear advice — so the relief lasts.

That depends on your condition and how you respond. Your podiatrist will recommend a sensible course and review your progress with you at each visit.
