Gait Analysis: See
Exactly How You
Walk and Run
You take thousands of steps a day without a second thought — which means a small fault in the way you move can quietly cause pain for years. Gait analysis brings that hidden pattern into the open. It shows you, in slow motion, exactly how you walk and run — so the cause of your pain finally has a face.
The Assessment
What Is Gait Analysis?
Your gait is your personal walking and running pattern — the cycle of movement from one footstep to the next. Gait analysis is a close study of that cycle: how your foot strikes the ground, rolls through and pushes off, and how your ankles, knees, hips and posture all work together. At Stride, we combine trained observation with video recording, so we can slow your movement right down and study what the eye simply misses in real time.

Why It Matters
You cannot see your own gait.
But your body feels every step of it.
A gait analysis does what no amount of resting or guessing can — it shows exactly what is happening, so treatment can finally target the right thing.
Reveals movement faults
Reveals the movement faults behind recurring heel, knee, hip and back pain — so you finally understand the source, not just feel the symptom.
Explains why injuries return
Shows patterns like overpronation or an uneven stride that cause the same injury to keep coming back, no matter how much you rest.
Catches what the eye misses
Slow-motion video captures the millisecond details that pass too fast for the eye in real time — the small differences that make all the difference.
Helps you move better for longer
For runners and active people, gait analysis reveals the inefficiencies holding back performance — and the patterns most likely to cause the next injury.
The Process
What to Expect in Your Session
There is nothing to it but walking — comfortably, and at your own pace.
A Conversation
We talk through your symptoms, your history, your activity levels, your footwear and your goals. The more we understand you, the more the footage will reveal.
Observed Walking
You walk naturally while your podiatrist watches your movement, posture and foot strike — trained eyes picking up detail before the camera even starts.
Video Recording
You walk — and run, if relevant — while we record from several angles for slow-motion review. Nothing to prepare; just move as you normally would.
A Frame-by-Frame Review
We play the footage back with you, slowing it right down and pointing out exactly what your feet and legs are doing with every step. Often the moment things click.
Your Plan
We explain what the patterns mean and what to do next — orthotics, targeted exercises, footwear changes or technique cues. Clear, actionable and built around you.
Your Outcomes
What You Walk Away With
By the end of your visit, you will have:
Your walk in slow motion
See exactly how you move — often for the first time. The footage makes the invisible undeniable and turns a vague pain into a clear problem.
The pattern behind your pain
Understand which movement patterns are causing your symptoms — or holding back your performance — so treatment can target the actual cause.
A personalised plan
Orthotics, exercises, footwear advice or technique changes — only what your specific gait pattern calls for. No one-size-fits-all.
Insight to move better
For active patients: practical guidance to run more efficiently, reduce injury risk and keep doing what you love for longer.

Frequently Asked Questions
They overlap and often work together. A biomechanical analysis is the full head-to-toe assessment of your structure and movement; gait analysis focuses specifically on how you walk and run, usually with video. Gait analysis is often one key part of a broader biomechanical assessment.
Not at all. Runners benefit greatly, but gait analysis is just as valuable for anyone with recurring foot, knee, hip or back pain — and for older adults whose balance or walking pattern has changed.
No. You simply walk as you normally would, in comfortable clothing. Most people find watching themselves back in slow motion genuinely interesting — it is often the moment the problem becomes clear.
Comfortable clothing you can move freely in, and the shoes you wear most — including running shoes. Their wear pattern, and how you move in them, tells us a great deal.
Often, yes. By revealing inefficiencies and injury-prone patterns in your stride, gait analysis lets us target small changes — in support, strength or technique — that help you run more smoothly and stay injury-free.
